How to Prevent Frostbite

Winter is a time for all sorts of fun activities—skiing, snowboarding, curling—but cold weather also presents its own set of hazards. Frostbite is one of the most common first aid situations you’ll encounter when it’s cold out, and it’s worth taking some precautions to prevent.

Do NOLS Even (And Especially) If You’re Scared

On her Pacific Northwest Backpacking course, Olivia Hewitt learned to “see my own discomfort as an invitation to connect, to lean in, to get curious and to speak my truth. Because fear is not a disqualifier. Being afraid does not make you small, or less able, to cross things like NOLS or public speaking off of your bucket list. Heck no!”
